Just what is needed today. An affirmation of our joint enterprise and our common bonds. But it certainly is "a date which will live in infamy."

May be โ€ฆ and maybe not. Americans are an amazing people !! My adopted country for the last 65 years. The wealth of the American country is her amazing people : educated , uneducated, brown. White, yellow or Black, Republican or democrats , religious or not. or any other group - are able to seek the good of others and live in peace. I have lived on 3 continents - and visited 4 - nothing is like my America !! With all its warts brokenness โ€ฆ. It is still the primary place that the rest of the worldโ€™s people STILL want come here. It was a miracle from God when America welcomed me with open arms , a 16 year old girl ( 1965), , left her family & home in an African country , and decided what she wanted out of life was in America!

Your beautiful words bring me to tears. Iโ€™ll try to keep this in mind as I go forward in my day here todayโ€ฆa blue dot in a shockingly red country.

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I happen to be one of those red dots in California, but I will hold your hand in solidarity as a human being. Politics aside we need to care and take care of each other.....

Tell that to Nick Fuentas.

Thank you for the image. Itโ€™s too easy to fall into the trap of thinking of oneself as isolated, particularly at times like these.

Hopefully we can in time realize that whether blue or red we are stronger together and are not enemies but vital members in this forest of America and United we stand divided we fall. This was really a beautiful piece. Thank you for writing it.

Thank you for this as I am feeling betrayed today. Nature does not fail to bring me calm no matter the prevailing winds.

I will be spending a lot of time today among trees. Literally, and metaphorically.

Yes, we can rely upon our greatest strength - leaning on each other! Thanks for this reassuring message today. The soul of America has taken a hit, but we are survivors! ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you. I need something this morning that suggests we will collectively survive this. I donโ€™t mean that I will be unharmed but that the life-affirming vitality of a community that cares for all its members will survive.

Michele, I used to live in CA and have seen the giant redwoods many times. They are incredibly awe-inspiring. I wish I could go amongst them now. Itโ€™s a privilege to be in a redwood forest. It is shocking when you come across a fallen redwood and see those shallow roots compared to the giant height of the 2000-3000 year old trees. Trees are amazing relatives to us. Every living thing on earth has a level of DNA. We share some DNA with all living things but the sequencing is different. Still, we are all identifiable as belonging to earth, hence, I call it a relative.

The joined root system makes a lot of sense.

We will continue to stand up to threats by joining together. We have to.

I could not agree more. We ARE nature, related to all life on earth. Thank you for putting it so well.

Thank you for this imagery and for these words. We can do this, shoulder to shoulder, hands and hearts locked together. I had a bad night and morning, but I feel like I am starting to see more clearly. We have work to do. Peace.
