Michele- you articulated what we all feel, whether from a small town or a neighborhood in a city. We know Tim Walz, he is our dad who makes us feel heard, he is our funny Uncle Tim who makes us feel good and laugh, and he is our brother, not afraid to stand up to a bully on our behalf(and a witty one at that) and he is our teacher who expects us to be honest and do the work required. We feel that we know him because we do - Tim Walz is us.
Michele, this is so good. Found you through Jess Piper! I grew up in a very small town in rural west central Texas in the 1960’s. You nailed the way it was, and how we all need to be. Thank you. One of my favorite movies that no one has ever heard of is Dancer, Texas, Pop. 81. It was 4 guys in a tiny Texas town who were so different but yet great friends. We need that kindness and respect in the whole country now so badly. Maybe Harris/Walz is exactly what this country needs. I pray it is. Great column!!! Thank you!
Me too! My High School played Elkhorn Mount Michael in sports. I detasseled and worked at the Diary Sweet. His acceptance speech made my cold, hard, cynical heart melt. And it made me want a Runza.
RUNZA! (Did you know they ship 'em now!?!) Superior NE native checking in -- I think Elkhorn was Class C back when high school would've played yours :-) . And absolutely, Walz does the farmer wave without even thinking about it. Willing to bet every single one of his Secret Service folk has already experienced this in some context.
Another exceptional piece! Incredibly informative as well… Walz is my Governor, he’s a great guy who gets things done for us in ‘Sota! I ‘m certain he will carry that same energy for America!
I am a farm girl from a very small town. Walz actually looks like my dad, the gray fringe around a bald head, same pattern, round face with a big smile.
He has the no nonsense football coach fire and my dad was quiet.
It's so eerie I would like to do some genealogy research.
The exuberance feels good.
The Dems I marked today in the Missouri primary were leading when I checked.
You know how I feel about this man, friend…love this piece!
Thank you, friend! 💙💙

This is beautiful - so eloquently said, and so very true. Thank you!

Thank you, Rick! Welcome!
Want to help fight all the shenanigans who are trying to suppress the vote?
www.womenlawyesforharris24.com is having kickoff call on Thursday to help mobilize lawyers for voter protection across all 50 states!
Thank you for sharing this, Liza! I'll help amplify.
On the Rural Americans for Harris call, so much inspiration! When we show up and have conversation, we can do this!!
I’m on too, Liza! Great speakers!
What a great scene in Philly. I think I feel the arc of the moral universe bending toward Justice.
He’s perfect. No bullshit or double speak experienced in government and life.
I could not agree more...

Omg RUNZA! I feel seen!

Love the photo of Walz with the piglet!
