The question was why people vote against their own interest. The answer couched from the point of view of getting more Democrats elected.

I believe the answer is that these voters do not vote against their biggest interest because their biggest interest is being part of their cultural community.

Just so you know, I’ll never again work for and/or donate to any candidate just because they are a Democrat or a woman.

I want to see action, not just listen to words, words, words. They must take action against this sea of troubles.

I am rural and I vote for Democrats because they have the policies that my community needs to thrive again.

I think I understand your question, Jim. My extended family is this way. Voting Republican and supporting Trump is part of their culture which runs deeper than simple politics. Voting Demoncrat would effectively ostracize them and it's very difficult to cut through the "common sense" everyone else in their lives repeats. They're voting for family, God, and country because that is what Republican means to them. My opinions are not valued by them, and they blame radical woke college for why I changed. They believe I'm going to grow out of it because the older you get the more conservative you get-it's just common sense!

The real world is not that simple though. There are veterans who support Trump, and there are veterans who hate Trump. There are old people who are conservative, and there are old people who are progressives. There are Christians who are Republicans, and there are Christians who are Democrats. Voting for family, God, and country can actually be any anything whether it's Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green, or any other party.

The crux of all this is that they live in a bubble, and having more exposure to out and proud Democrats in the community will help break down the beliefs that Republican equals holy and Democrat equals evil.

We're not advocating that people blindly support candidates just because they are women or black or whatever. Diversity is important, but it's not a goal in and of itself. The goal is genuine community representation, and diversity is a component of that. Women getting elected is a big deal because they aren't being heard or represented by the men in political power. This isn't about women equaling good while men equals bad. This is about expanding what representative leadership looks like which in turn expands the range of possibilities in the community.

Damn! Sam great answer! They have no idea what's going on in the real world. When the economy was humming they were being told it was shit. Now the economy is shit and they are told it's humming. Just part of the plan. The reason to vote Democrat is that when Democrats are in charge things get better, typically! Under Democrat presidents the economy is simply better. You can go way back in it holds true almost 100% of the time. Whatever you think the factors are this is simply a fact

Now that Jess has met your demands, please share with everyone what actions you will be taking to make a difference in your community.
